Like the rest of Sardinia, Alghero is a land of prized wines. Native grape varieties include Cannonau and Vermentino, whereas Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot were imported to the island. Alghero’s Torbato DOC uses grapes brought here by the Spanish. These are just some of the extensive range of DOC whites, rosés and reds that, year after year, help to consolidate Alghero’s wine culture.
Alghero’s winemaking tradition benefits from the input of a plethora of small wineries. Moreover, the Alghero area is home to two of Italy’s largest and most respected producers: Santa Maria la Palma and Sella & Mosca. Both of these large wineries are open throughout the year, allowing you to immerse yourself in the wonderful world of Algherese wine.
