Porto Conte Nature Reserve

During the course of the year, Alghero offers numerous opportunities for contact with its uncontaminated natural landscapes.

These include a visit to the Porto Conte Nature Reserve, where you are sure to enjoy a great day out, even in autumn, thanks to the mild climate. You can explore the Reserve starting from the south-east, taking in the Calich lagoon and Mount Doglia, before proceeding towards the coast, where you will find the gulf of Porto Conte, which is dominated by the promontories of Punta Giglio and Capo Caccia.

The Reserve, situated in one of the most beautiful corners of the Mediterranean, safeguards its precious marine, coastal and lagoonal ecosystems and provides a base for intense scientific research, conducted in partnership with other European countries. Its Land and Sea Environmental Education Centre (Centro di Educazione Ambientale Marino e Terrestre  – C.E.A.M.A.T. for short), which is geared towards promoting a culture of environmental sustainability, offers a wide range of education and training programmes aimed at teachers, students and, more generally, all those who love the natural world.

How to reach the headquarters of the Reserve

From Alghero, take the road marked as "127 bis" heading towards Porto Conte. On reaching the junction for Capo Caccia, take a left in the direction of Capo Caccia. After travelling for a few miles along this road, stop at Tramariglio (near the small tourist port you can see to your right). The headquarters of the Reserve are located within the former penal colony.
